What Is Trusted Traveler?

The Canadian government has agreed to participate in the United States Trusted Travel program as part of the Western Hemisphere Agreement. Trusted Travel provides low risk travelers with expedited border crossing between Canada and USA and Mexico and USA. It also allows air travelers expedited re-entry into the United States and Canada from any destination in the world.

There are five trusted traveler programs aimed at pre-cleared low risk travelers:

NEXUS

Expedited border crossing for land, air and marine between Canada and the United States. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or US citizen or permanent resident to qualify.

Global Entry

Expedited re-entry into the USA using the Global Entry kiosks at participating airports. You must be a US citizen or permanent resident to qualify.

SENTRI

Expedited border crossing for land, air and marine between Canada and the United States. You must be a Mexican citizen or Canadian or US citizen or permanent resident to qualify.

FAST

Expedited land border crossing for commercial truck drivers wishing to cross the Canada – US border or the Mexico -US border. You must hold a commercial driver’s license and be a Mexican citizen or Canadian or US citizen or permanent resident to qualify.

TSA Precheck

Expedited access through security on departure from participating US airports. You must be a US citizen or permanent resident to qualify.

NEXUS Card Canada members qualify for Global Entry and TSA Precheck benefits when traveling in the United States. NEXUS members may also register a vehicle to cross the US Mexico border.
